Programs

Our Infant Program is geared to children 6 weeks old to 15 months old.  The primary goal of our Infant Program is to provide the highest quality, personalized care for your child.  We believe that each child should be loved and cherished for his or her own unique, individual qualities.  The positive bonding and attachment to the loving care givers at Woodbury Montessori will provide your baby with the emotional security necessary for well-balanced growth and development.

  • Language development is encouraged by our staff’s responses to your baby’s first attempts at speech.  Children are absorbing vocabulary and language skills long before they are able to talk.  Our teachers continually talk to your children, explaining what the children are seeing and experiencing, describing things in the room, and encouraging the children to repeat words.  We read to the babies and watch for their nonverbal responses to what is going on around them.  We teach baby sign language to the infants as soon as they are able to understand signing.
  • Physical development is encouraged by our staff’s interactions with your child.  We provide a safe environment where your baby can begin learning how to roll over, sit up, crawl, stand, and walk. Your baby can practice these movements with the help and encouragement of our trained staff.
  • Play activities are an important part of your baby’s day.  Your baby’s interaction with other babies and the staff helps to develop beginning social skills, curiosity, exploration of their environment, and confidence.

Our infant program is designed to create a loving and caring environment where your child can feel right at home.

Our Toddler Program is geared to children 16 months to 32 months and is an introduction to the Montessori Children’s House or preschool class.  The loving and caring environment in our toddler program helps to provide a solid foundation for learning.  The children are introduced to a structured learning environment with lots of freedom to learn, play, and explore at their own individual pace.  One of the goals of this program is to help children learn to function independently.  Our staff helps the children develop social skills, language skills, and physical skills.

  • Language development is encouraged as children learn to recognize letters and words, expand their vocabulary, have open conversations between teachers and children, and learn sign language.  Children are encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings.
  • Math concepts are introduced as children learn to recognize numbers and what they represent, manipulate geometric shapes, and become aware of fractions.
  • Toddlers are introduced to history, biology, botany, geography, and science.
  • Creativity and physical dexterity are encouraged through the use of music and art activities.
  • Children begin developing socialization skills by learning and following the rules of the room.  They learn to share, to take turns, to walk in the classroom and halls, and to listen when someone else is talking.

Our toddlers begin to develop confidence, a sense of independence, and a love of learning in a safe and secure environment.

Our Children’s House (preschool) is geared to children 33 months to 5 years of age.  The primary goal of our preschool Montessori Program is to help your child grow personally, socially, educationally, and emotionally in an atmosphere that emphasizes maximum development under caring and loving professional guidance.

Every child is a unique individual.   By the same token, the Montessori approach represents a unique educational method, based upon a sensible balance between freedom and structure. It is designed specifically for the young child, with learning systems and materials aimed at maximizing each child’s potential during his/her crucial formative years.  This social and educational influence, in a positive and constructive atmosphere, can help your child develop into a mature, fulfilled and happy adult.

Individual and group presentations are made in the Montessori classroom as introductions to a variety of subjects.  Some of the activities covered are:
